BukSU SWEU conducts interactive activity for World Suicide Prevention Day

The Student Welfare and Engagement Unit (SWEU) of Bukidnon State University held an interactive suicide awareness activity on September 10, 2026, in observance of World Suicide Prevention Day and as part of the university’s Suicide Awareness Month campaign.

Called “PAN DE SOUL: Paminaw. Pakabana. Paglaum. Padayon.,” the activity focused on suicide prevention awareness, conversations about mental health and the importance of seeking help and reaching out to others.

Dr. Lora E. Añar, RGC, director of SWEU, discussed the importance of a university environment where students can share their emotions and concerns and receive support.

According to Añar, it is important to create a caring and supportive university environment where students feel heard, valued, and safe to express their emotions and concerns.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hananeel Jay A. Cabiling, RGC, facilitated the introduction to PAN DE SOUL. He explained the campaign’s four messages: Paminaw (Let’s listen), Pakabana (Let’s be present), Paglaum (Let’s hold hope) and Padayon (Let’s move forward).

The highlight of the activity was the PAN DE SOUL Interactive Activity, which provided participants with an engaging and reflective avenue to discuss emotional well-being, support systems, hope, and the importance of reaching out. Rather than being a conventional seminar, the activity encouraged participation, reflection, connection, and open conversations.

Through the interactive activities, participants together with the BANUWA Peer Facilitators were encouraged to recognize the value of listening without judgment, showing genuine concern, offering hope, and supporting one another during difficult moments.

The activity also addressed the importance of seeking assistance when dealing with emotional or personal difficulties. SWEU and the university’s Guidance Counselors were identified as available sources of support, guidance and appropriate referrals for students who need assistance.

The campaign conveyed that students can seek help from university support services when they experience emotional or personal concerns. It also encouraged members of the university community to pay attention to the needs of others and offer support when appropriate.

Through PAN DE SOUL, SWEU carried out a suicide prevention and mental health awareness activity as part of the university’s Suicide Awareness Month campaign. The initiative centered on listening, concern, hope and continued support within the university community. (Lora E. Añar, RGC/ Head, SWEU)
