Week of Welcoming Opens New Academic Year for BukSU Students

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) opened Academic Year 2026-2027 through the “Lakbay: Walk the Wonder” Week of Welcoming Program, with more than 9,000 enrollment applications recorded for the main campus.

The program provided students with an overview of academic and support services, campus organizations, and student opportunities available throughout the academic year. It also served as the official welcome for first-year students.

For first-year Bachelor of Development Communication student Fevriere Balatayo, the opening program offered an opportunity to meet fellow students and learn about ways to participate in campus life.

“I feel very excited and welcome here at Bukidnon State University. I feel like there are a lot of students from different communities, and it is a great opportunity to socialize with them,” Balatayo said.

Another first-year Development Communication student, Zowie Yugi Dag-on, said the Week of Welcoming gave her time to adjust before classes and introduced activities related to her academic interests.

“I am looking forward to the activities in Development Communication, especially radio broadcasting, journalism, hosting, and news publications because those are the fields I really want to pursue,” Dag-on said.

The opening activity also drew graduating students.

Graduating Bachelor of Philosophy student Jezreel Dave Tubo said interacting with the incoming class reminded him of his first year at the university.

“Seeing [the first-year students] reminds me of when I was just starting my journey at Bukidnon State University. Now, I am one of their seniors, and I am excited because I am about to achieve my goal of graduating from BukSU and finishing my studies here,” Tubo said.

“Our theme, Lakbay: Walk the Wonder, is not just a phrase. It is an invitation. An invitation into the unknown with courage,” said Supreme Student Council President Jan Kenneth Vargas.

According to BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, students should uphold the university’s EPICC core values of Excellence, Professionalism, Integrity, Commitment, and Culture-Sensitivity throughout their academic journey while embracing the DASIG Spirit, which calls for courage, resilience, and determination.

“I leave you with two simple words that define who we are: WE DO. We Empower Dreams into Opportunities. We empower one another by creating opportunities where everyone belongs, everyone is valued, and everyone has the chance to succeed,” said Mirasol.

Activities scheduled during the Week of Welcoming include university-wide orientations on institutional policies and student services, the Amul-Amul concert, an acquaintance party, and organization booths and bazaars.
