
A new initiative to document and preserve the cultural heritage of Malaybalay City was conducted through a joint meeting between city tourism officials and Bukidnon State University on May 19, 2026.
Marven Jan A. Nadela, Senior Tourism Operations Officer, and BukSU Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations (VPREI), Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso led the discussions.
Ms. Joan M. Recente, BukSU Director of the Research and Development Unit (RDU), Dr. Jiemalyn B. Paulican, BukSU Director of the Extension Services and Community Engagement Unit (ESCEU), and Ms. Loreta Sol L. Dinlayan, BukSU Director of the Bukidnon Studies Center (BSC), presented each unit’s thrust and its alignment with the meeting agenda.
BukSU and City LGU Tourism discussed the possible initiatives and ways forward toward the preservation and documentation of the rich cultural assets, traditions, and heritage of Malaybalay City in support of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
“The partnership is intended for a research-based extension program to do a cultural mapping in Malaybalay City. A capacity-building for faculty researchers and resources from the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) and BukSU BSC will be taken as an initial step,” Paulican said. (Dr. Jiemalyn B.
