
Dr. Rene M. Chavez, Automotive Department Head of Bukidnon State University, secured Third Place in the Industrial Design (Banghay) category at the National Invention Contest and Exhibit 2026 (NICE 2026) on April 27–28, 2026, at the Acacia Hotel, Manila.
NICE is recognized as the country’s platform for showcasing Filipino inventions and technological innovations. Representing Mindanao, Dr. Chavez was among the nation’s top innovators in industrial design.
Dr. Chavez earned his place at NICE 2026 after emerging as a winner during the ClusteRICE 2025, held on August 19–20, 2025. From a competitive pool of 764 entries evaluated nationwide, only 28 finalists advanced to the national level.
Organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), NICE served as a platform for connecting innovators with industry stakeholders, investors, and support systems.
