
Bukidnon State University (BukSU) alumna Hizen Novi Melendez delivered an outstanding performance at the World Pickleball Championship (WPC) Asia Pickleball Open after winning two (2) gold medals and recording another strong finish in mixed doubles held on March 11-16, 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Competing against athletes from different divisions in the international tournament, Melendez claimed the gold medal in Women’s Doubles 4.5 (19+) together with Honey Gilles.
She also bagged the gold medal in Women’s Singles 3.5 (19+), further highlighting her consistency and competitive form on the international stage.
In the Mixed Doubles 4.5 (19+) event, she and Vince Raniego finished as 4th Runner-Up.
The WPC Asia Pickleball Open formed part of an international tournament structure that organizes competition according to age and skill categories, including divisions such as 3.5 Intermediate Plus and 4.5 Advanced Plus. This format placed athletes in brackets matched to their playing level and class of competition.
