Bukidnon State University (BukSU) remains committed to advancing climate resilience and disaster preparedness. Under the proactive support of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit (DRRMU), the University continues to implement comprehensive Climate Change Action initiatives to strengthen campus safety, enhance community awareness, and mobilize institutional resources to address the growing impacts of extreme weather events.
These initiatives align with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action), which encourages institutions to integrate climate adaptation and mitigation strategies into their core operations. As typhoon events intensify nationwide, BukSU’s approach emphasizes preparedness, risk reduction, and continuity of academic operations.
Comprehensive Typhoon Preparedness Framework
The DRRMU has operationalized a multi-layered typhoon preparedness and response system tailored to the specific hazards affecting the University’s campuses. Key components include:
•On-Standby Emergency Response Team
A pool of trained personnel remains on continuous standby to provide immediate assistance during emergencies, including evacuation support, first aid, and coordination with local authorities.
•Early Warning and Advisory System
Timely and real-time advisories are issued, including recommendations for asynchronous classes and the dissemination of official class suspension announcements from the Local Chief Executive during severe weather events.
•Campus-Wide Monitoring and Assessment Network
DRRMU Coordinators and Disaster Managers conduct regular monitoring across all BukSU campuses to provide real-time situational reports and in-campus hazard assessments.
•Real-time Communication Tree
A structured communication hierarchy ensures efficient information flow and coordination among administrators, faculty, staff, students, and partner agencies.
•DRRMU Information Hub
The DRRMU serves as the central source of verified information, providing real-time updates on weather conditions, risk advisories, and safety protocols on its website.
•BukSU Incident Command System (ICS)
The ICS provides a unified command structure that streamlines decision-making, prioritizes critical needs, and enhances coordination during disaster response operations.
“In line with this framework, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit (DRRMU) encourages the BukSU community to remain informed and actively engaged by closely monitoring official BukSU and DRRMU announcements, participating in scheduled disaster drills, training sessions, and preparedness activities, and promptly reporting hazards or emergencies through the DRRMU page. Through collective vigilance and shared responsibility, Bukidnon State University continues to transform disaster risks into opportunities for resilience and sustainable development,” DRRMU shared.
