After a six-year break, cadets of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at Bukidnon State University (BukSU) underwent a full inspection on April 23, 2025, as part of the Regional Annual Administrative and Tactical Inspection (RAATI) conducted in Region 10.

The last inspection was held in 2019, with subsequent evaluations put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The RAATI assesses the effectiveness of ROTC units in terms of administrative systems, training quality, and operational readiness.
A total of 452 BukSU ROTC cadets participated in this year’s RAATI. They were joined by one company each from Northern Bukidnon State College and Pangantucan Community College, both affiliate units of BukSU. As the mother unit, BukSU leads the ROTC program for these three public institutions.

The inspection, led by RAATI Chairman Col. Rey P. Pasco, GSC (INF) PA, and Commandant Maj. Julius A. Elleso (INF) PA, included a ceremonial parade, troop formations, and a series of performance- and skills-based assessments. These covered a theoretical examination, map reading, assembly and disassembly of a cal. 5.56 mm rifle, and basic life support drills. Administrative support for the ROTC program was also evaluated, with BukSU’s administration recognized for its performance in this area.
BukSU’s National Service Training Program (NSTP) Director, Albert Celebran, said the university’s involvement in the RAATI reflects its compliance with Republic Act No. 9163, which mandates the establishment of NSTP for tertiary-level students.

“The ROTC program helps instill core values such as discipline, patriotism, obedience, and volunteerism among students,” said Celebran.
Graduates of the ROTC program are enlisted as part of the Philippine Army Reserve and may be activated under specific conditions. The last recorded instance of BukSU cadets being called to active duty was in 1986 and 1987, following the end of Martial Law in the Philippines. (BukSU-Information Unit)
