As the Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools Inc. (MASTS) Friendship Games 2024 draws near, the BukSU community is encouraged to rally behind the student-athletes and performers as they strive to bring pride to the university.
This year’s MASTS Friendship Games will take place from November 24 to 29 at Josefina H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.
The annual event brings together state universities and colleges from across Mindanao to showcase their talents and competitive spirit in a vibrant celebration of culture, arts, and sports. The festival features competitions in pageantry, literary, musical, visual, theater, and dance arts. Meanwhile, the athletic arena will see over 25 sports events where student-athletes will compete with passion, teamwork, and skills to bring honor to their respective institutions.
The BukSU Men’s Football team, composed of 15 members, has been preparing for the event since August. The team is determined to build on their performance last year when they secured a bronze medal in the MASTS Games. This achievement earned them the opportunity to represent Region 10 at the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) meet in Tarlac in 2023.
Men’s Football team coach, Mr. Aldren G. Daga-ang emphasized the importance of discipline and preparation. “Constant practice is the key to ensuring our players are ready,” he shared. “However, training sessions with the team were challenging because while we aim for regular practices, we have to make sure this will not compromise the studies of the students.”
The BukSU Radio Drama team is also determined to maintain its winning streak after securing the silver medal in last year’s MASTS.
“BukSU’s Radio Drama team is made up of seasoned artists who have been honing their skills since 2022. They have participated in numerous competitions, showcasing their talent and dedication,” said their coach, Dr. Chaseur Leo Vann Ontolan.
BukSU’s participation in the MASTS Games is a testament to the university’s commitment to holistic student development, achieved not only through academic excellence but also through excellence in sports and other extracurricular activities. (BukSU-Information Unit)
