A first-year BS Mathematics student at Bukidnon State University secured 3rd place in the provincial elimination round of the 28th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ), held on October 24, 2024.
With this rank, Mark Deniel P. Ontong earned a spot in the regional eliminations scheduled for November 7 in Cagayan de Oro.
The PSQ is a nationwide annual contest designed to test the knowledge of first-year college students in statistics from all over the country. It is organized by the Philippine Statistics Authority and the Philippine Statistical Association Inc.

Aside from Ontong, two other Math students, namely Kristine Joy B. Alfeche and Angel Mae L. Balaba, joined the battle of wits, with coaches Mark Ivan P. Arcillas and Dr. Noel B. Lacpao, faculty members of the Mathematics Department, and the Head of the Mathematical Center, Dr. Zeny L. Maureal, who served as their trainer.

The BukSU team squared off against participants from Central Mindanao University, Mountain View College, Philippine College Foundation, and San Agustin Institute of Technology.

“The BukSU community is immensely proud of their students’ accomplishments, recognizing their dedication, hard work, and exceptional skills. This achievement marks another significant milestone in BukSU’s journey of academic excellence,” said Maureal.
