On September 18, 2024, a one-day training-workshop on the Table of Specifications (TOS) and Item Analysis was conducted at the BukSU Hotel, Casisang, Malaybalay City, for the faculty members of the College of Technologies. This activity aimed to enhance faculty competency in developing valid and reliable assessments to ensure the alignment of educational goals with student performance.
With discussions led by esteemed speakers Dr. Melluh Jane Tiu, Dr. Derren Gaylo, and Dr. Marlon Frias, the training emphasized the elaboration of Bloom’s Taxonomy in crafting measurable learning outcomes, Participants learned to apply Bloom’s Taxonomy to designing both performance-based and pen-and-paper assessments, ensuring that these assessments accurately reflect the different cognitive levels.
Central to the workshop was the preparation of the Table of Specifications (TOS) for both performance assessments and traditional examinations. Through the hands-on workshop, the faculty produced their individual TOS for their respective assessments. The Item Analysis provided the faculty members with insights to enhance the validity & reliability of their upcoming assessments. They were introduced with the university’s tool to facilitate item analysis, guiding the faculty in interpreting test results and identifying poorly performing items for revision or removal.
The training marked a significant step toward continuous improvement in the university’s assessment processes, ensuring that COT faculty members are equipped to create assessments that contribute to student success. (Mr. Raul D. Lecaros, COT Secretary)
