These BukSUans Have Graced the National Stages of Pageantry

At Bukidnon State University, holistic development is at the core of our educational philosophy, nurturing students to excel not only in the classroom but also in various fields, including national pageants.

This year, several BukSUans have participated in national pageants, defying conventional stereotypes by using their platforms to advocate for meaningful causes and advocacies.

Through their involvement in these competitions, these exceptional BukSUans demonstrate the power of integrating academic excellence with social responsibility, showcasing the true essence of Bukidnon State University’s commitment to producing well-rounded and impactful leaders.

GWEN MARIE PERION

Gwen represented the municipality of Opol, Misamis Oriental, in the Miss Philippine Earth 2024 pageant held last April. With her wit and eloquence, she won the Bronze Medal for Press Favorites.

At Miss Philippines Earth, Gwen advocated for responsible waste management and the creation of sustainable communities.

“This sustainable community is a place where citizens are able to utilize available resources to meet their current needs but also keeping in mind that it is still adequate for consumption of future generations,” she said in her advocacy video.

Gwen completed her BS in Business Administration major in Financial Management at BukSU in 2023.

DOLLY CEBALLOS CRUZ

Dolly is Malaybalay City’s representative in Miss World Philippines 2024. During the pageant’s Press Presentation, Dolly described herself as a “3-in-1 woman,” highlighting her roles as a lawyer, a teacher, and a beauty queen.

“As a 3-in-1 woman, I make sure that my profession is aligned with my mission to bring back justice, fairness, and equality to my fellowmen, especially the Indigenous Peoples of Bukidnon who are very close to my heart,” she said.

During her time at BukSU, Dolly was already a student “with a purpose.” She was named Most Outstanding University Student in 2017, the year she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Secondary Education, majoring in English.

SHENNY SAMPANG

Shenny is currently spending her semestral break representing the province of Bukidnon in the Bb. Pilipinas 2024.

This incoming third-year student taking up a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English at BukSU, has proudly showcased the indigenous cultural heritage of Bukidnon in the country’s longest-running beauty pageant.

In the national costume event, Shenny received widespread praise for wearing a Bukidnon IP-inspired gown, which showcased various ethnic elements reflecting Bukidnon’s diverse and vibrant culture.

MELQUISEDES QUEROL

Sedec Querol is an incoming 4th-year student at BukSU’s College of Nursing and is representing Misamis Oriental in the Ginoong Pilipinas 2024 pageant.

In 2022, he represented BukSU in Mr. MASTS (Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools), where he placed 2nd runner-up.

Sedec advocates for “Promoting Male Mental Health Awareness,” aiming to destigmatize mental health issues among men and encourage open dialogue and support.
