A special recognition goes out to our outstanding alumni who secured coveted spots among the topnotchers.

Let us get to know our PNLE topnotchers!

ZENCHIN C. YAM-OC

“Tatin or Zen” as what family and friends call her originally aspires to be a veterinarian because of her love for animals. Yet unexpected situations led her to pursue nursing instead. Despite initial hesitations and a love-hate relationship with the field, the clinical experiences shifted her priorities towards helping people, revealing nursing as a noble profession determined by a deep passion for promoting and preserving health.

“During our clinical rotations,” she recounted, “the true essence of nursing unfolded before me through personal interactions with patients. It was a turning point. My priorities shifted. While the desire to help and provide care remained, my focus now had a new direction – towards people.”

Despite the taxing nine-month review, she continued with a kind environment.

“The nine-month review was physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially taxing, but I persevered by creating a supportive environment with positive, inspiring people. By reciprocating their motivation, seeking solutions to problems, and relying on prayer, I managed to get through,” Tatin shared.

She credits BukSU’s commitment to excellence from 7th grade through college for shaping her, and fostering an attitude of striving for the best.

“I attended BukSU from 7th grade through college, and over those ten years, the school’s commitment to excellence profoundly shaped who I am today. Encouraged to strive for the best while enjoying the journey, I carried this attitude from junior high through college and into my review days, continually refining it,” she said.

Any plans after passing the licensure exam?

“I plan to rest before gaining general clinical experience, likely in the ER or psychiatry, before pursuing my specializations. My future decisions will be guided by their impact on my personal and professional growth,” she said.

NENOCHE GRACE T. DELFIN

From the very beginning, “Grace” saw herself as an average individual, yet driven by her goals and a deep-seated passion for learning and helping others.

“I consider myself an average, goal-driven person who loves to learn from others and is passionate about using my knowledge and skills to help patients achieve optimal health,” she shared.

Yet coming to BukSU and all throughout her years, the university became more than just a place of education; it became a nurturing ground for her values and aspirations.

“From the enrollment process up to the moment I graduated, I can say that who I am today was greatly influenced by the values I acquired from my dear Alma Mater. I learned how to be a critical thinker and a knowledge-thirst individual. The strong academic foundation offered by BukSU guided me in aiming for Excellence, Professionalism, Integrity, Commitment, and being Culturally- sensitive, from my college days up until the present,” Grace said.

Though juggling part-time work with intense review classes, she pushed through wakeful nights and moments of uncertainty.

“Juggling part-time work with review classes and battling sleep deprivation, I remained determined to achieve my PNLE review goals,” she emphasized.

Despite the rigorous demands of her nursing program, she faced financial constraints that threatened to derail her dreams. However, fueled by determination and unwavering support from her parents and faith in God, Grace persevered.

“Throughout my student years and review months, I faced personal hardships, particularly financial constraints, despite the common perception of nursing as a prestigious field. While frustrated at times, I’m grateful to my parents and God for their support, and I ensured diligent academic study to honor their sacrifices, coping with stress by consoling myself and prioritizing rest,” she added.

Any plans after passing the licensure exam?

“I’m actually planning to work as a staff nurse in the hospital and review for the NCLEX exam at the same time,” Grace said.

JESS ANTONETTE D. BURLAOS

Jess Antonette Burlaos, known as “Tibot” by family and friends, achieved an extraordinary feat by excelling in the PNLE while nine months pregnant, giving birth on the day the results were announced.

“Our review started last September 2023 when I was already one month pregnant. I took the exam at full term, knowing I could give birth at any moment during the two-day exam. All I did was trust God and pray. The results were posted on May 14, 2024, and I gave birth to my healthy baby girl on the same day,” she recounted.

“I tried my best to avoid stress during the review because it’s not good for me or the baby. I’m very thankful for my supportive family and friends, who made the review process less stressful,” Jess added.

Jess is a woman of determination.

“Once I set my goal, no obstacles can hinder me from achieving it,” she stated.

Any plans after passing the licensure exam?

“I plan to apply as a Community Health Nurse and pursue a master’s degree in nursing,” she shared.
