Bukidnon State University’s fourth-year Philosophy student, Charles Jone M. Rosales, bagged the Best Paper award during the 2023 Societas Ethica Philosophica, Inc. (SEPI) International Conference on Christian Philosophy, Sustainability, and Development in the Philippines and Southeast Asia on September 28 to 30, 2023.
The said event was held at Silliman University and virtually via Zoom.
Rosales impressed the judges with his paper entitled “The Christian Imperative: Awakening the Ethical Consciousness of the Privileged for Social Justice.”
Rosales said his paper aimed to create a practical ethical framework for privileged individuals on how they can properly and strategically utilize their privileges for the betterment of society.
Rosales believed that in the status quo, part of creating a better society is to awaken the ethical consciousness of the privileged individuals and that such privileges must be shared with the deprived ones.
“I should always be grateful because I have privileges that a lot of people don’t have, and such privileges should be used not just for myself but also for others,” he said.
Rosales extended his gratitude to the Philosophy program for molding his skills and for the support given to him during the event. He also hoped for future readers to embody the spirit of kindness and empathy as part of promoting social justice.
“To my future readers, may this paper spark a revolution of love and care for our fellow human beings regardless of race, gender, status, culture, and belief,” he said. (Information Unit)
