Evaluators commend BukSU’s enactment on quarterly drill exercises

MALAYBALAY CITY – Officers from the different offices in Malaybalay commended Bukidnon State University’s’ enactment on the 3rd quarter simulation exercises drill on Bomb Threat Management in the main campus from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. last September 28, 2022.

Mr. Rhondell M. Paraiso, DRRM Focal Person, said that the simulation exercise is focused on acts of terrorism. The whole activity, he said, was a group effort of the university response units and other government agencies.

After the actual drill took place, Plt Ramon Medina Frades, Buk PECU Head, commended the university for observing the precautionary measures and safety in his drill debriefing in the university mini theatre.

“As to the sequence and manner during the evacuation, the university is, so far, excellent and have observed necessary protocols,” he said.

PLT Eutiquio L. Lumanang, RC, PNP Chief Commander, also congratulated the BukSU Community for showcasing the talent and skills of all the responders during the drill.

“Next time, we already know what to do (kabalo nata unsay buhaton). If it (bomb threat) ever happens, God forbids, we are now ready (andam nata),” he added.

A gentleman from the Bureau of Fire Protection, PO2 Vernon Medrano said that even if this is a rare activity, this could still happen in our city.

He also added that the responders must have the same language in order to have an organized and smooth activity.

He also suggested that, next time, it would be better to use electronics as means of communication instead of the manual procedure (hand signals, pen, and paper).

Chief Alan J. Comiso from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that one purpose of the drill is to know our possible lapses.

“Basically, if I were to rate our drill exercise, we have passed (pasado ta),” he said.

Hon. BGEN Roland M. Orquia, City Councilor, Public and Safety Committee Chair, also pointed out lapses during the drill and gave some recommendations for improvement.

He said that first thing to improve is the security. He added that he guards must keep an eye on suspicious people and items.

“The person (bomber) is wearing a faculty uniform but is not wearing an ID. He’s sitting in the registrar’s office. He is a person who is not in the right place and right time. That’s one thing the guards must keep an eye on (mao na dapat bantayan sa atong guards),” he added.

After the evaluators delivered their comments and suggestions, distribution of the certificates to the officers then followed.

The drill is spearheaded by the University Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit in collaboration with the Bukidnon Explosives Ordinance and Canine Unit, Malaybalay City Police Station, Malaybalay City Bureau of Fire Protection, Malaybalay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, 911 Central and the Office of the City Peace and Order Committee. Some university students and selected offices participated during the drill which includes the President’s Office, HRDU, OP-IPS, Board Secretary’s Office, CAO-Admin, all offices from the Finance building, COA, university canteen, university auditorium, university AVC, Registrar’s office, and DRRMU.
