DAMULOG BUKIDNON – Damulog satellite campus faculty and students mobilized disaster survival strategies during Emergency Management Training on October 17, 2022.
The said training was conducted to give proper training to the faculty and students regarding potential disaster survival strategies.
This is also to determine whether the students have already received the necessary training from the Damulog Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (DRRMC).
BukSU Disaster Risk Reduction Management Unit conducted earthquake drill as the first task, which was participated by both the faculty and students.
He mentioned two things that one must do during a disaster: Do not close your eyes and keep your hands to yourselves.
He also cited one common mistake during earthquake drills which is covering the heads with the hands when entering the safe zone.
He said if you are inside a building during an earthquake and it is dark, you must quickly exit by touching a wall or the ground.
“The wall and the floor are connected, and the door is connected to the floor,” he said.
Another emergency management tip from Mr. Paraiso is the non-verbal ways to communicate with someone when you’re in danger and you need to ask for help.
“As an illustration, imagine being the victim of a robbery attempt and having a deadly weapon or knife pointed at you. By tucking your hands into your pocket, you signal for assistance. It would be clear that you are requesting assistance if you put both hands in your pockets,” he said.
He also added that you must shout “SUNOG” rather than “thief” or “rapist” to warn the neighbors that something is about to happen.
After the activity, Mr. Paraiso mentioned the importance of having common sense during emergency situations so you can survive on your own. (Bryan A. Capangpangan, Brayan B. Bosqui, Arlene S. Mayacyac/BukSU Damulog SC)
