MALAYBALAY CITY (OP-IPS) Bukidnon State University automotive faculty invertor, Dr. Rene M. Chavez, has received a Certificate of Distinction (BRONZE) Award in the Filipino Inventors Society competition during the National Invention in November 15 to 19, 2021. The competition, dubbed “Outstanding Philippine Innovation Revolution (OPHIR)” carried the theme “Pitching Innovative Products to the Marketplace through Synergized Partnership”. It was organized with the support of the Department of Science and Technology—Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), it was held at the Celebrity Sports Plaza, Delta Drive, Matandang Balara, Quezon City. BukSU was among those invited to participate in the competition. Mr. Chavez joined the Utility Model category, which included utility model patents granted by IPOPHIL and Creative Research, any patent pending or without patent application- inventions, utility models, industrial designs, devices, products, chemical/mechanical processes or research with demonstrable qualities already commercialized or with potential commercialization. The Filipino Invertors Society of the Philippines conducted the National Invention Week this year using a unique approach. Due to the global pandemic of the COVID -19 virus, the committee decided to conduct an online competition where all participants were asked to pitch their innovation through a 3–5-minute recorded video presentation. Dr. Chavez is a multi-awarded faculty member of BukSU. He has authored and copyrighted an Automotive Dictionary, Advance Automotive Electrical Module, An Instructional Trainer Manual for Automotive Lighting, Car Alarm and Central Locking System, and Automotive Laboratory Manual. Dr. Chavez has been recognized as the coach-mentor of BS Automotive Technology Students, resulting in a 100% passing rate in their National Certificate Level II Automotive Servicing Examination from 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018. He was also awarded as the “On Time All the Time Award” and “Outstanding College Teacher” in 2017 by Bukidnon State University. He also placed second and third in the DOST Region 10 Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE 2017–2019). He also won the 2018 Best Paper for the University Wide Research Competition (Masters’ category). In 2020, he won a Special Citation Award for the Alfredo M.
