MALAYBALAY CITY – The Bukidnon State University radio station DXBU 104.5 FM has engaged in a participatory community radio project dubbed Isibya-Ipaambit (broadcast and share) 2016 for greater public access to its radio facilities and programs. The project opens the radio station’s airtime to programs from the different colleges and units inside Bukidnon State University and other government, non-government, and people’s organizations in Bukidnon, especially in Malaybalay City.
Radio station staff has initiated development and promotion of radio programs to be jointly managed by the radio station in partnership with BukSU and other government and non-government organizations. Among the current radio programs created under Isibya Ipaambit 2016 are the “President’s Time,” the weekly program of university president Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez and “Keep Malaybalay City Clean and Green: Episode 2” of the science classes of Prof. Nornie Micayabas of the BukSU Secondary School Laboratory.
The project aims to maximize the use of the University radio station as a communication and information partner of the university in pursuing its four-fold functions in instruction, research, extension, and production. This is also to offer DXBU to organizations outside the university who may benefit from the community radio station’s resources. The project also makes DXBU’s radio facilities more accessible to the public by offering its Panawagan Center at the administration building for walk-in public service announcements. The Panawagan Center is supported by DXBU’s membership to the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP)-Bukidnon Chapter, with 11 other radio stations in the province who can relay announcements and updates. Another component of the project is to tap folks in pilot barangays to serve as volunteer news and information reporters to help expand DXBU’s network at the grassroots level. Aside from the desire to upgrade DXBU’s news and information programs, there is also an on-going improvement of its music programs like uploading of new songs and formatting of music-oriented shows.
