MALAYBALAY CITY (IPS) About 150 participants attended the 1st National Training-Workshop for English Teachers on Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) on April 24 to 26, 2019 at the Bukidnon State University Auditorium.

The BukSU College of Arts and Sciences Language and Letters Department (LLD) hosted the training workshop with speakers from different universities.

Dr. Neonitta D. Danao, one of the pillars of the institution during her service to the university, opened the event as the keynote speaker highlighting the shift and development of pedagogies in education through time.

Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela, the College of Arts and Sciences Dean, articulated the legal mandate behind the implementation of the Outcomes-based Education in tertiary level.

Dr. Jerome Ouano, a multi-awarded faculty of de la Salle University, shared his expertise on translating the OBE approach to actual classroom teaching.

Dr. Maria Angeles D. Hinosolango, faculty of USTP and an American English Trainer, introduced materials and resources that teachers of English may use in their OBE classes.

Dr. Elle Christine D. Melendez, university assessment expert, guided the teachers in realigning the assessment tools and methods according to the OBE framework.

Being a Center of Development (COD), the English Program of the university is expected to be a resource entity to assist other academic institutions as delegated in CHED Memorandum Order 2006: “…become a resource to strengthen other schools in their localities…and expected to lead in uplifting the quality of education in their respective disciplines and in their areas of responsibility.”

With this mandate, the LLD, headed by Dr. Rizza R. Consad, has initiated the conduct of three trainings for English teachers and pre-service teachers majoring in English for three years.

This year, the initiative has evolved as a national training workshop for English teachers to acquaint them on the Outcomes-based Education paradigm. (Julysa C. Cardona, CAS-Language and Letters Dept./OP-IPS Contributor)
