Extension Unit

The Extension Unit (EU) is a showcase of the University’s thrust for functional and relevant projects, linkages and services which are implemented through continuing education, capacity development, entrepreneurship and governance.

As a service provider, the BukSU Extension Unit empowers people to improve their lives through continuing education and training, developing attitudes and skills, and providing knowledge transfer in promoting quality of life.

Extension Creed

Go to the people, live with the people
Learn from them, plan with them
Work with them, start with what they know
Build on what they have, teach by showing
Learn by doing, not by showcase but a pattern
Not odds and ends but a system, not piecemeal but integrated approach
Not to confirm but to transform, not relief but release.

Goals

The Bukidnon State University Extension Unit aims to effectively and efficiently deliver practical, relevant and responsive extension programs that shall have been adopted and utilized by the people in the community to enhance/improve their quality of life.

In the pursuit of attaining quality assurance, it is the aim of the university, through the BukSU extension unit to contribute its community extension expertise to the society and the country. CHED Memorandum Order No. 56, S. 2016 on Pathways to Equity, Relevance and Advancement in Research, Innovation, and Extension in Philippine Higher Education put emphasis on platforms   in pursuit of inclusive social and economic development. As provided in this directive, HEIs like BukSU, as producers of knowledge or hubs of innovation, like other HEIs, are positioned to work in partnership with communities, business, and industry in facilitating the transfer of knowledge or technology on specific development areas that directly affect the lives of individuals, families and communities.

With this, the University’s Extension thrusts are geared towards the upliftment of the quality of life and poverty alleviation in the region, in Mindanao, and the country as a whole.  The community extension thrusts and priorities of BukSU is focused on platforms that are based on the seventeen (17) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in consonance with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Philippine Development Plan (2017-2022) of National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) anchored on Ten Point Socio-Economic Agenda, Commission on Higher Education (CHED)- National Higher Education Research Agenda (NHERA),  Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Harmonized National Research and Development Agenda (HNRDA) 2017-2022 and National Integrated Basic Research Agenda (NIBRA) 2017-2022, the National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA), Gender Responsive Extension Agenda (CHED CMO #1 series of 2015) and based from the discovered local needs of the community revealed through research. Guided by the abovementioned programs, BukSU considers the following thrusts by colleges to establish priorities in developing, processing and funding extension proposals that is locally, culturally and gender-sensitive.

The Bukidnon State University has crafted the umbrella institutional extension program entitled BukSU’s Unified Leverage for Inclusive Growth (BULIG): A Community Empowerment Extension Program. “BULIG” is a Binukid word which means help. True to its mandate, BukSU shall extend help to partner citizens and communities in addressing real-world social, economic and environmental challenges. Bulig, therefore, is a fitting symbol for the university to perform its extension function.  The extension agenda and priorities are clustered into six (6) categories namely, lifelong learning, culture, arts and tourism, governance and management, environmental management and disaster risk reduction, health and well-being, livelihood development and technology.
