Bukidnon State University (BukSU) conferred Juris Doctor (J.D.) degrees to 250 graduates from the College of Law (COL) for the class years 2006 to 2018, during a ceremony held at the Mini-theater on June 28, 2024.
This event was in accordance with the Legal Education Board (LEB) Memorandum Order No. 19, Series of 2018, which mandates the migration of the Bachelor of Laws (Ll.B.) degree to the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
“Both Ll.B. and J.D. are graduate degrees that are owning to the fact that only graduates of four-year Bachelor degrees are admitted by law schools in the basic law course. So, in the mind of the LEB, this is inappropriate to use Ll.B. since it creates the erroneous perception that the basic law degree is equivalent to any bachelor’s level degree,” explained former COL Dean Atty. Gerardo J. Murillo, who served as the conferment speaker.
During the ceremony, all COL alumni from these 13 batches received new diplomas bearing their J.D. degrees. Among the recipients was current COL Dean Atty. Ophelia Pilar E. Rubio-Zamora, a 2009 graduate.
“This reunion is a sweet homecoming for graduating classes of 2006 to 2018. Walking these halls again evokes memories of our challenging yet rewarding journey into the intricacies of law. We surely reminisce about countless hours spent studying, engaging discussions, and the perseverance that brought us here today,” said Atty. Rubio-Zamora.
“As you navigate the ever-evolving landscape of law, I urge you to embrace a future-oriented mindset, strive for innovation continuously seeking creative solutions, and pushing boundaries by shaping a just and equitable world,” said BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol. (BukSU-Information Unit) (with reports from Febb Gorgonio and Marielle S. Ortiz, BSDC Interns)
