BukSU Opens Centennial Celebrations with Tree Planting and Time Capsule Ceremony

Bukidnon State University marked the commencement of its centennial celebrations with a ceremonial tree planting and the burial of a time capsule at the main campus on June 10, 2024.

University officials planted a Balitbitan tree (Cynometra ramiflora), designated as the Centennial Tree, on the front lawn of the campus. Another tree was planted at the Annex Campus.

According to Mr. Dante S. Victoria, Jr., the Vice President for Administration and Finance, the Balitbitan tree symbolizes the university’s deep-rooted history and enduring legacy.

“Known for its resilience and versatility, the Balitbitan can grow up to 26 meters high and thrives in diverse environments. Its beautiful assortment of light green, yellow-green, and pink leaves, represents the vibrant and dynamic spirit of Bukidnon State University,” Victoria said.

Meanwhile, BukSU memorabilia were collected and placed inside a time capsule to capture and preserve the current culture, events, and life at BukSU for future generations. University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol and Supreme Student Council President Mr. Vicente Quimbo also wrote a letter addressed to the BukSUans of 2124, to be opened during the university’s bicentennial celebration.

In her message, Mirasol emphasized the Smart BukSU agenda, envisioning a future-ready university.

“To those who will open this capsule in the years to come, what advancements have shaped your world? Has Smart BukSU blossomed into a beacon of educational excellence? Have our efforts empowered you to build a better future?” Dr. Mirasol said. Quimbo shared his curiosity about how the world and the lives of BukSU students will have evolved in one hundred years. “I hope the messages find you in a world that has grown wiser and kinder. May this continue to build on the foundation laid by those before you. Always strive for progress, understanding, and compassion,” he said. (BukSU-Information Unit)
