Bukidnon State University’s radio station, DXBU 104.5 FM, clinched two prestigious awards at the 18th Gandingan Awards ceremony, held on May 4, 2024, at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños.

DXBU’s program “Pag-Ambitay Daw Ag Kaulian (Share to Heal) Season 3 Goes Blended” was named the Most Development-Oriented FM Program.

Alongside, “Kaglambaga” was recognized as the Most Participatory Program.

“Pag-Ambitay Daw Ag Kaulian” is an initiative by the university’s Extension Unit, broadcasting resilience stories post-Covid, both on radio and online platforms. On the other hand, “Kaglamabag” is produced by the Bukidnon Studies Center (BSC), tackling issues and concerns of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities in Bukidnon.

“This award has recognized the importance of community partnership. Kaglambaga is a radio program that has direct involvement and participation from the IP communities. It is supported by two Memorandum of Understanding between BukSU-BSC and the Bukidnon-Tagolwanen tribe and with the Office of the IP Mandatory Representative of Malaybalay City,” said BSC Director Ms. Loreta Sol Dinalayan.

This is the second Gandingan Award for “Pag-Ambitay,” following its previous recognition in 2022 as the Most Development-Oriented FM program.

“[Winning these awards] underscores our commitment to development-oriented media work. These awards truly reflect the dedication and hard work of the committees behind these impactful programs, showcasing real stories of challenges and hope in the agriculture sector through engaging and participatory programming. We are grateful to the Gandingan for acknowledging our work and to our dedicated listeners and community for their continued support,” said dxBU FM station manager, Engr. Manuel Chad Agurob.

The Gandingan Awards is an annual event organized by the UP Community Broadcast Society that celebrates excellence in broadcast media. This year’s theme, “Agrikultura: Mga Kwento ng Hamon at Pag-asa” (Agriculture: Stories of Challenges and Hope), underscores the crucial role of media in raising awareness and fostering dialogue on agricultural issues.

According to the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovations, Dr. Carina Joanne V. Barroso, the recognition highlights BukSU’s dedication to innovative and community-focused broadcasting.

“These awards set a high standard within both the academic community and the broader broadcasting industry. Congratulations to the entire team on your well-deserved success,” Dr. Barroso said. (BukSU-Information Unit)
