The University of Science and Technology in the Southern Philippines (USTP) Cagayan de Oro campus conducted the BANTUGAN Awards 2023 on December 16, 2023 in Cagayan de Oro City.
The USTP Outstanding Alumni Awards recognizes the university’s alumnus and alumnae who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments, affiliations, and careers have honored the legacy of excellence of the university and contributed a significant impact to society.
Dr. Rene M. Chavez, the department head of BukSU-Automotive Technology Department, USTP alumnus received the prestigious award for Excellence in Science and Technology.
He placed 2nd in 2017 and 3rd in 2019 for the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE) of DOST-10.
Dr. Chavez has three patent grants: two utility models and one industrial design.
In 2020, he won the Special Citation Award for the Alfredo M. Yao (AMY) IP Awards from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Moreover, two of his innovations received a certificate of distinction as a Bronze Award from the Filipino Inventor’s Society during the National Inventors Week-Outstanding Philippine Innovation Revolution (NIW-OPHIR) in November 2021.
Dr. Chavez is the Civil Service Pag-Asa awardee of region 10 for his outstanding work performance in public service as of September 20, 2022.
Recently, he won third place in the utility model category and third place in the creative design category for the 2023 Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit Clusterice in Mindanao on October 4–5, 2023. (Nicolas S. Carisosa Jr., Automotive Technology Department Faculty)
