CHED names Commissioner Libre as BOR chair of BukSU, 23 other SUCs    

MALAYBALAY CITY (OP-IPS) The Commission on Higher Education has named Commissioner Dr. Jo Mark Libre as the new chair of the Board of Regents of Bukidnon State University and 23 other state universities and colleges in the country, as stated by CHED Chair J. Prospero E. de Vera III in CHED Special Order no. 22, dated March 1, 2022.

Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez, University President, announced the new BOR chair’s appointment to the members of the Joint Academic and Administrative Council Meeting (JAAC) in its 2022 First Quarter Meeting on March 7, 2022.

Dr. Libre and Dr. Marita Canapi were named as new CHED Commissioners based on appointment papers signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte on February 9, 2022, according to ched.gov.ph. The two new commissioners will serve a three-year term until July 21, 2025.

Libre, who will assume the post from outgoing commissioner Dr. Perfecto Alibin, formerly served as the Vice President for Communications and External Affairs at the Jose Maria College Foundation, Inc. in Davao City.

According to ched.gov.ph, Dr. Libre obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) and was awarded a scholarship from CHED to pursue his Master of Arts in Political Science with a major in Global Politics at Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU).

Libre also took Master of Public Administration from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) and received his Doctor of Public Administration from Ateneo de Cagayan-Xavier University.

Libre’s areas of specialization encompass Political Science, International Politics, Global Governance, International Relations, Comparative Politics, Conflict Resolution, Political Methodologies, Public Administration, Public Policy Analysis, Public Administration, Public Administrative System, Political Parties and Interest Groups, and Philippine Administrative System.

Libre and Canapi will join Chair J. Prospero E. de Vera IIII De Vera and Commissioners Ronald Adamat and Aldrin Darilag in CHED.

De Vera thanked outgoing Commissioners Alibin and Lilian de las Llagas “for showing outstanding leadership and for contributing to the effective governance of the governing boards of their respective State Universities and Colleges (SUCs),” as quoted in the CHED website.

Dr. Cabañelez also informed the BukSU academic community of the appointment of a new CHED-10 director, Dr. Freddie T. Bernal, assuming the post from Dr. Raul C. Alvarez Jr. Dr. Bernal was formerly the CHED regional director in Region 5 (Bicol Region). Dr. Alvarez is now the director of CHED-6 (Western Visayas). (Mr. Walter I. Balane/OP-IPS)
