Faculty members from the Secondary Laboratory School (SLS) and Professional Education teachers from the College of Education (COE) of Bukidnon State University – Senior High School (BukSU – SLS) participated in a virtual curriculum review and planning session on the design and implementation of the Strengthened Senior High School (SHS) Curriculum via Zoom yesterday, July 8, 2026

The activity, organized by Quipper Philippines Inc. representatives Kathlyn Apatan and April Mae Puno, aimed to equip educators with the necessary planning tools and practical knowledge ahead of the upcoming academic year.

Paul Ray Mark N. Salsag, the Lead Consultant for Learning Analytics and Pedagogical Strategy of Excelandia IT Services, Inc., served as the event’s resource speaker and facilitator.

Salsag, an educational consultant, published researcher, and national trainer in learner-centered, outcomes-based education, discussed how the Strengthened SHS curriculum framework equips students with 21st-century skills to remain future-ready, and explained the purpose and process of preparing curriculum maps based on the new standards and competencies.

“The key consideration is the paradigm shift from VUCAD to BANI…” Mr. Salsag stressed, emphasizing the modern framework driving the curriculum changes.

Following the lecture sessions, the participants were immersed in two collaborative workshop activities designed to assess institutional readiness and apply the new curricular concepts.

The first workshop, required teachers to accomplish a Gap Analysis Matrix. Evaluating the school’s current state against its desired future goals, the participants analyzed several key operational areas to pinpoint institutional needs:

  • Curricular review and subject offerings
  • Work immersion and institutional linkages
  • Faculty preparation and training needs assessment
  • Instructional planning and delivery
  • Assessment and grading policies
  • Learning resources and facilities
  • Career guidance and learner mapping

The workshop covered Curriculum Mapping of Unit Standards and Learning Competencies. Educators selected specific unit topics, designated their corresponding academic terms, and aligned unit content and performance standards with the Department of Education (DepEd) Curriculum Guide. The participants also plotted relevant assessments, learning activities, instructional resources, and core institutional values to match the prescribed competency levels.

“This training and the information I gained from this have been very helpful for me,” said Mr. Gaspar, a Professional Education faculty member, during the synthesis. “I am confident that what I learned will not go to waste but will be shared with my fellow PE faculty….. and to our students, who will be future teachers.”

Organizers noted that the productive output of the workshops armed the faculty with the vital frameworks required to ensure the effective adoption of the Strengthened SHS Curriculum. (Jackie Lou C. Corbita/ Faculty, BukSU SLS)
