BukSU Economics Faculty speaks at Indonesia’s SWIFT 2026

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) continues to expand its global footprint as Environmental Planner (EnP.) Adriane John P. Luncido, a faculty member of the Economics Department under the College of Arts and Sciences, served as a featured resource speaker at the hybrid format Satya Wacana International Forum of Thought (SWIFT) 2026, hosted by Satya Wacana Christian University (UKSW) on July 11, 2026.

Luncido delivered a presentation titled “Economic Globalization and Its Impact on Trade and Inequality,” which tackled the dual nature of global integration. Leveraging time-series data from the World Bank Data360 platform, Luncido compared the aggregate social and economic indicators of various Southeast Asian nations to provide localized insights.

He challenged the conventional outlook on global markets, asserting that economic integration should not be viewed as the ultimate goal.

“Globalization is not an end in itself, but a means to achieve development — one that must ultimately be reflected in people’s daily lives through inclusive growth, improved living standards, and shared prosperity,” Luncido stated.

To mitigate the inequalities exacerbated by globalization, Luncido urged governments to invest in human capital. His recommendations included:

• Strengthening national education systems and building digital competencies.
• Expanding access to modern infrastructure.
• Reinforcing social protection mechanisms for vulnerable sectors.

He highlighted that international organizations must champion fair trade, technology transfer, and climate financing. Concurrently, he called on the private sector to adopt responsible supply chains, uphold Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, and ensure fair value distribution.

Sharing the global stage with Luncido was Prof. Daniel Daud Kameo, a distinguished economist and the Executive Advisor to the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara. Prof. Kameo, who also serves as a professor at UKSW and Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, presented on “The Role of Economic Diplomacy and Digital Transformation in Addressing the Challenges of Globalization.”

Kameo emphasized that navigating an increasingly interconnected global economy requires a robust combination of international cooperation, technological innovation, and adaptive governance to secure sustainable development.

The forum, moderated by Dr. Gede Ariade, was designed to spark critical academic discourse on trade, diplomacy, and digital transformation. It drew a diverse audience of multidisciplinary students from various Southeast Asian countries, alongside faculty members from UKSW’s Faculty of Economics and Business. (Cleopas Bette R.
