Over 70 faculty researchers from Bukidnon State University’s (BukSU) 16 satellite campuses convened at the 4th Floor Conference Hall, Research Building of the main campus on April 28-30, 2026, for a three-day Applied Bibliometric Analysis Writeshop aimed at elevating the institution’s global research standing and publication output.
“By focusing on bibliometric analysis, a statistical method used to analyze scholarly publications, the university aims to equip its educators with high-level skills to identify research trends and scholarly networks,” Joan M. Recente, BukSU Director for Research and Development Unit (RDU), said.
According to the RDU, the initiative is a direct response to the university’s goals for state universities and colleges (SUC) Leveling and improving its standing in global rankings such as QS and Times Higher Education (THE).
Smart University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol emphasized that research at BukSU transcends simple compliance. “Research is not only about compliance or publication; its primary purpose is to generate knowledge, solve real problems, and create solutions that improve lives, strengthen communities, and drive institutional development,” Mirasol stated.
She further assured participants of the administration’s full support, noting that research nurtures personal and professional growth, shaping into better educators, leaders, and nation builders.
The program featured a specialized team from Global Health Focus (GHF), including Dr. Don Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III and Mr. Jerico B. Ogaya.
Participants engaged in a complete research workflow, including learning where to find research, how to map out information, and write the final report.
“The writeshop emphasizes an applied and output-oriented approach, where participants will engage in the full research workflow from data extraction and bibliometric mapping to interpretation and scientific writing. Using established databases and analytical tools participants will generate evidence-based insights on research trends, thematic developments, and scholarly networks within their respective fields,” Recente added.
The activity culminated in the development of a draft manuscript, guided by facilitators and enriched through feedback sessions. (BukSU – Information Unit)
