Discussions on culture and identity in response to globalization took focus during Bukidnon State University’s 1st Global Youth Forum featuring speakers from Indonesia’s Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.

The discussion focused on how globalization affects young people’s sense of self and their connection to cultural heritage. Speakers urged students to stay rooted in local traditions while developing a global perspective. They also said culture must be actively practiced rather than simply preserved.

Panelists discussed the link between language and identity. The conversation aligned with Bukidnon State University’s English Language Program goal of developing socially aware and globally minded learners.

The Language and Letters Department integrated the first Global Youth Forum into its annual English Day celebration on April 15, 2026. The move turned the academic event into an international platform for discussions on culture, identity and youth engagement.

“This forum is more than a special feature; it is a meaningful expression of our commitment to nurturing culturally aware and socially responsible students,” the Language and Letters Department said in a release.

The department said the forum sets a direction for future activities under the English Language Program through more intercultural and policy-driven academic engagements in the coming years. (Dr. Grenna Marie Simene, Dr. Joanna Ruth S. Paloma, Menard Labor)
