Bukidnon State University (BukSU) is exploring a partnership with the National Nutrition Council (NNC) to air the agency’s Nutriskwela radio program through the university’s campus station, DxBU 104.5 FM, a move that could expand the reach of both institutions’ community-based nutrition and public health initiatives.
The proposed collaboration was discussed during a virtual exploratory meeting involving representatives from the NNC central office, NNC Region 10, BukSU’s Extension Unit and DxBU FM.
Dr. Jiemalyn B. Paulican, director of BukSU’s Extension Unit, said the partnership could align with several existing university extension programs that already address food security, nutrition education and community health.
The university’s Extension Unit oversees projects focused on continuing education, capacity development, entrepreneurship and governance through community-based programs and services.
Under the proposed partnership, DxBU 104.5 FM may serve as an additional platform for the NNC’s Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program, which uses radio broadcasting to deliver nutrition and development information to underserved communities.
Nutriskwela stations are established in areas with high malnutrition prevalence, government priority development areas and communities with limited access to commercial radio broadcasts.
If formalized, the partnership would integrate BukSU’s existing nutrition-related extension work with NNC’s community radio network to expand access to nutrition information in Bukidnon and nearby communities. (BukSU – Information Unit)
