The Secondary Laboratory School (SLS) Junior and Senior high school students, practice teachers, and nursing students of Bukidnon State University (BukSU) convened for a Reproductive Health Symposium titled “Empowering Youth: Navigating Reproductive Health, Preventing Teenage Pregnancy, and Embracing Responsible Informed Decision on Pregnancy” on March 25, 2026.
The Medical Clinic, in partnership with the invited OB-Gynecologists and Family Medicine specialists, conducted the symposium as part of the celebration of Women’s Month Celebration.
The symposium provided students with information about reproductive health on Reproductive Health Assessment and Prevention, including Breast Self-Examination, as well as Family Planning and Responsible Parenthood.
Free medical consultations with doctors were implemented.
The speakers included Dr. Thenelda Buenaventura, Dr. Sheila Gay B. Bragat, Dr. Ruth S. Beltran, Dr. Krystal Heyasa, and Dr. Levi Grace Nińa Flores.
“It (menstruation) is not something to be ashamed of as it is a normal part of life, and understanding it helps us take better care of ourselves,” shared Dr. Buenaventura during her discussion.
Dr. Bragat also emphasized, “When young people are given the right information, they are empowered to make responsible and informed choices for their future.”
The symposium became a space for learning, reflection, and empowerment. By breaking myths and sharing facts, BukSU helped students realize that understanding their health is not only important, but it is their right. (BukSU – Secondary Laboratory School)
