BukSU’s Quality Assurance Director Dr. Iris April L. Ramirez has been elected Mindanao Director Representative to the Board of Trustees of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), where she will take part in accreditation decisions, policy development, and standards setting for state universities and colleges (SUC).
In this capacity, Ramirez will be involved in approving accreditation results, including the conferment of levels such as Level IV, and in reviewing evaluation findings and technical reports.
The Board of Trustees also formulates policies, standards, and assessment instruments, and ensures that accreditation processes remain aligned with AACCUP’s mandate of promoting voluntary and context-responsive quality assurance in Philippine higher education.
Ramirez will serve a two-year term as part of a 15-member governing body overseeing accreditation among SUCs nationwide. She previously served as Mindanao Faculty Representative on the same board.
Her election took place during the 39th AACCUP National Convention on March 24, 2026, at Century Park Hotel. Her nomination and election were supported by BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol.
In a statement, Ramirez said her election is both an honor and a responsibility, which is an affirmation of her commitment to advancing quality education. She also cited the importance of working with education leaders in making decisions that affect SUCs across the country.
AACCUP provides program and institutional accreditation services to higher education institutions through assessment processes based on national and international standards. Its framework includes goals related to stakeholder satisfaction, internal process improvement, human resource development, and financial viability, alongside the promotion of a culture of quality in Philippine higher education.
