This Level I accreditation is a meaningful milestone for us. It affirms that our programs in the satellite campuses meet national quality standards, giving our students a better learning experience and ensuring that our graduates carry with them the credibility and confidence of being products of a quality-assured institution,” said Dr. Albert A. Villanca, Director of Satellite Campuses Management Office.

BukSU’s satellite campuses were established in 2018, replacing the External Studies Centers that had operated since 1976. The transition came after the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) ordered the closure of these centers in 2015. Before operating fully, all satellite campus programs secured Certificates of Program Compliance from CHED by the end of 2022.

In 2024, AACCUP conducted preliminary survey visits to the BukSU satellite campuses, reviewing academic programs, faculty qualifications, facilities, and institutional performance. The evaluation allowed the campuses to advance to formal accreditation, resulting in the recent Level 1 awards.

AACCUP conducts evaluations of academic programs and institutions in state universities and colleges. Under its charter, the agency’s role is “to develop a mechanism of, and conduct the evaluation of programs and institutions.” Accreditation involves an external review to determine if academic offerings meet established quality standards comparable to similar institutions.
