Bukidnon State University (BukSU) presented three academic programs for evaluation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) during a virtual accreditation held September 8-12, 2025.
The Bachelor of Science in Entertainment and Multimedia Computing, the Doctor of Philosophy in English Language, and the Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education major in Biology underwent Level I assessment covering 10 areas, including VMGO (Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives), faculty, curriculum, student support, research, extension and community engagement, libraries, physical plant and facilities, laboratories, and administration.
“We once again open our doors to assessment, because our history teaches us that progress is not built on complacency but on constant striving,” Vice President for Administration and Finance Dante S. Victoria Jr. said, reading the message of BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol at the opening conference. “Accreditation is a reflection of our desire to honor the legacy of those who came before us and to prepare the next generation for a future that demands excellence, innovation, and compassion.”
Dr. Iris April Ramirez, head of the university’s Quality Assurance Unit, said, “The main strength of Bukidnon State University in program accreditation is its strong commitment to continuous quality improvement. The Quality Assurance Unit actively ensures that programs meet required standards, thoroughly prepares the task force, and carefully manages all documentation needed for accreditation visits.”
She added that accreditation efforts are linked with the Smart BukSU and Smart Education Framework. “The SMART BukSU program uses technology and innovative methods to enhance teaching and learning. This approach prepares graduates for the 21st century while ensuring the university maintains rigorous academic standards during accreditation.”
AACCUP lead coordinator Dr. Isidro L. Duran of Don Mariano Marcos State University said, “Today, the importance of AACCUP accreditation is widely acknowledged as a vital process for Higher Education Institutions to comprehensively assess their performance.” He noted that accreditation “offers go beyond basic entries serving as a hallmark of quality institutions dedicated to academic excellence” and highlights both strengths and areas needing improvement.
Accreditation for programs seeking Level I status requires a mean of 3.0, with no individual area mean below 2.5. Programs meeting these standards may be granted Level I Accredited status, valid for three years.
AACCUP states that accreditation helps programs identify strengths and weaknesses, guides parents in choosing schools, and informs funders about where support is needed. It is also used in administrative decision-making, such as granting credit points to graduates applying for teaching positions in the Department of Education and serving as a criterion in state university leveling, foreign student selection, and eligibility for funding incentives.
