DOST-NRCP, BukSU link up to drive research and innovation

BukSU was represented during the MOA signing by President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol and Vice President for Research, Extension and Innovations Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso. Representing the NRCP were Chief Science Research Specialist Beverly Mae N. Dela Cruz and Regional Development Lead Dr. Jasper Vincent Q. Alontaga.

The Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) and Bukidnon State University (BukSU) formalized a research partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held at BukSU’s Research and Extension Building on April 21, 2025.

The DOST-NRCP is a policy advisory body made up of researchers and scientists, mandated to support knowledge creation and evidence-based policymaking. The agency is working toward becoming the government’s central research advisory institution for sustainable development by 2033.

BukSU was represented during the MOA signing by President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol and Vice President for Research, Extension and Innovations Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso. Representing the NRCP were Chief Science Research Specialist Beverly Mae N. Dela Cruz and Regional Development Lead Dr. Jasper Vincent Q. Alontaga.

An orientation session followed the signing, focusing on NRCP membership processes, research programs, and institutional support mechanisms. NRCP representatives outlined benefits for members, including access to a national network of researchers, collaboration opportunities, and potential funding for academic initiatives.

According to Dela Cruz, the engagement would support capacity building in research and encourage faculty participation in educational technology and analytics.

“This MOA signing is more than a ceremonial event; BukSU’s testament to our shared commitment is a dedication in transforming the research landscape and ensuring that these contributions not only meet the highest standards of academic excellence but also address the pressing societal needs of Mindanao and even beyond,” said Dela Cruz.

President Mirasol characterized the event using the acronym “MOA,” citing Membership, Opportunities, and Alliances as key components of the university’s engagement with NRCP. She noted that membership connects BukSU researchers to national networks, while opportunities include funding and publication platforms. She added that the alliance fosters collaboration beyond institutional boundaries.

“By partnering with NRCP, we embrace a culture of shared innovation, co-creation of knowledge, and inter-institutional support that benefits our university and the communities we serve,” said Mirasol.

A total of 70 faculty researchers from BukSU were enrolled as official NRCP members. Their registration adds to the council’s membership base, which now exceeds 6,900 since it was established on December 8, 1933, under Republic Act 4120. (BukSU-Information Unit)
