Malaybalay IPMR, BukSU partner to capacitate Malaybalay local media in boosting Bukidnon culture

In a meeting on January 11, 2023 of BukSU-BSC together with Kaglamba production and Malaybalay IPMR Hon. Renato Sumbongan along with DXBU radio station manager DEngr. Manuel Chad G. Agurob, it was discussed that the new season must adhere to the important items found in the Malaybalay City Ordinance No. 976 “An Ordinance Promoting, Protecting and Preserving the Rights, Traditions, Culture, Customs and Institutions of the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples of Malaybalay.”

Particularly, on item D section 5 of the ordinance stated the use of mass media in the promotion of Bukidnon culture, tradition and customs, which meant that all mass media outlets within the city were encouraged to allocate, free of charge, at least thirty (30) minutes a week of their airtime.

Prior to the actual drafting of the radio program content, it was agreed that an orientation and workshop for the media people was an essential springboard to level-off their understanding of the Bukidnon culture, customs and traditions.

Mr. Walter I. Balane, Head of the Center for Peace Studies in BukSU, pointed during the meeting that the orientation among the media people can imply common knowledge about the IP thereby alter confusions among viewers and listeners including readers from the time they tune in to the program aired in different stations.

“The preliminary plan is to conduct a cultural sensitivity orientation and workshop among media people of Malaybalay,” Ms. Loreta Sol Dinlayan, Director for Bukidnon Studies Center said.

The discussants also created a team to facilitate the readiness to the new season.

“A technical working group was organized to discuss the details. Such project will be a collaborative effort of BukSU and Malaybalay City IPMR,” Dinlayan added.

Meanwhile, Kaglambaga, a radio program hosted by BukSU-Bukidnon Studies Center (BSC) for the indigenous communities aired in DXBU, will continue its service for the target audience and be on its fourth season.

Kaglambaga, was a finalist of the University of the Philippines Diliman Gandingan Awards 2022 for the Best Participatory Radio Program. (with reports from Ms. Loreta Sol S. Dinlayan)
