In a bid to fortify their global academic standing, four (4) distinguished members of the Asia Pacific Journal of Social and Behavioral Sciences (APJSBS) Editorial Board from Bukidnon State University (BukSU) actively participated in a recent seminar workshop on Scopus Indexing and other Indexing Application Processes. The two-day event, held from November 27 to 28, 2023, in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, brought together esteemed professionals and experts in the field of academia.
The delegation from BukSU, comprised of Dr. Maribel G. Valdez, the Editor-in-chief, Mr. Christian J. Inovejas, Ms. Joan M. Recente, and Dr. Sarah Louise S. Atulba probed the intricacies of Scopus Indexing and associated application procedures. The seminar workshop, hosted by Bohol Island State University, drew the presence of vice presidents for research, research directors, and esteemed members of Journal Editorial Boards hailing from various universities across the Philippines.
The highlight of the seminar was the keynote address delivered by the distinguished Dr. Professor Don Eliseo III Lucero-Prisno, a renowned global health scientist with an extensive body of work focusing on health equity. Dr. Lucero-Prisno, Editor-in-Chief of Public Health Challenges at Wiley and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of BMC Global Health Research and Policy, shared his expertise, having authored 350 scientific articles, books, book chapters, and scientific reports.
The primary objective of the intensive training was to empower participating universities in their pursuit of heightened global recognition by fostering the publication of Scopus indexed research papers. The participants also explored the navigation of the application processes for inclusion in Scopus and other indexing platforms.
Ms. Recente, the Research Director of BukSU, expressed the university’s eagerness to establish networks with researchers who can contribute to their journal. “The goal is not only to attract high-quality research papers but also to successfully secure Scopus indexing for the journal by the year 2024”, she said.
Dr. Valdez, the Editor-in-Chief of APJSBS highlighted the seminar’s value in elucidating effective strategies for enhancing publication excellence. “The workshop not only identified challenges but also provided practical and actionable methods to improve the quality of research output. Strategies ranged from meticulous manuscript preparation to targeted journal selection and strategic networking”, she said.
The seminar workshop provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and skill development. The insights gained by the BukSU delegates are expected to play a pivotal role in elevating the university’s scholarly impact and global standing in the realm of social, behavioral, and applied sciences. The commitment of the APJSBS Editorial Board reflects a shared aspiration to bring about transformative changes in academic research, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation within the university and beyond.
