Malate, Manila – Bukidnon State University attended the 2nd Philippine Data Festival on October 3-4, 2023 at Century Park Hotel, Malate, Manila.
Zeny L. Maureal, the Head of the Center for Mathematical Innovations; and Ms. Loraine Mae R. Asuncion-Añasco, the Head of the Center for Local Governance represented BukSU on this two-day data festival with the theme “Harnessing the Power of Data and Statistics for a Future-ready Filipino and Filipina Youth”.
Usec. Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, the National Statistician and Civil Registrar General of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) graced the national event.
“In this digital age, information is the most powerful and essential commodity,” Mapa stressed in his welcoming speech during the opening ceremony. He further said that data and information form the bedrock for making sound and informed decisions within the government.
The festival showcased key presentations, including insights into the Smart City of Baguio and the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), presented by Arch. Donna Tabangin, the City Planning Officer of Baguio City.
Additionally, Ms. Desiree O. Narvaez of the National Economic Development Authority shed light on the role of data in local and national evidence-based policy making.
Usec. Claire Dennis S. Mapa of PSA also shared valuable perspectives on the agency’s contributions to crafting policy.
The two-day data festival was organized by PSA for faculty and students whose interest is on statistics, data science and data analytics in both the public and private sectors.
The said event featured various presentations on current trends on big data and data analytics, resilience, macroeconomy and finance, health, women and gender, education and literacy, poverty, and population among others. BukSu’s active participation in the 2nd Philippine Data Festival underscores its commitment to fostering a data- driven culture and preparing its faculty and students for a future where data and statistics play a pivotal role in shaping informed decision-making processes.
