INVESTITURE CEREMONY: Dr. Mirasol emphasizes SMART BukSU means holistic education

MALAYBALAY CITY – In her inaugural speech during her Investiture Ceremony, Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, the 3rd University President, emphasized that her vision of Smart BukSU is beyond having advanced infrastructure. It is a holistic approach to education that prepares the students for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age.

“A SMART BukSU is not just merely a reflection of advanced infrastructure or cutting-edge technology. It is a holistic approach to education that prepares our students for the challenges and opportunities for the digital age. It is about equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to navigate a rapidly evolving world,” she said in her speech during the Investiture Ceremony held at the University Gymnasium on June 15, 2023.

She added that as the university traverses into the realms of artificial intelligence, everyone’s innovative spirit must be firmly grounded with ethical principles and remain steadfast in holding the values of integrity, accountability and social responsibility.

“Innovation and ethical leadership go hand in hand,” she cited.

The new BukSU President outlined six dimensions for the vision – Smart Campus, Smart Education, Smart Students, Smart Workforce, Smart Research, Development and Extension, and Smart Governance.

CHED Commissioner Jo Mark Libre, Chair of BukSU Board of Regents, urged Dr. Mirasol to foster a healthy and inclusive learning environment. He offered an 8-point set of principles that the president can promote including integrity, respect, collaboration, active participation, compassion, and culture of creativity.

Commissioner Libre expressed his confidence on President Mirasol’s leadership abilities and unwavering dedication to BukSU. He promised to cooperate with the new President to accomplish the goals and path she laid for the University.

The Commissioner spearheaded the vesting of the Robe, Hood, and Cap and Imposition of the University Medallion. BukSU Vice Presidents presented the University Mace and the Student Regent turned over the University Banner.

Dr. Joy M. Mirasol expressed her gratitude to the Board of Regents. She said she is committed to serve with unwavering dedication, integrity, and passion.

Former BukSU Presidents graced the investiture ceremony, Dr. Jaime M. Gellor, Dr. Teresita T. Tumapon, Dr. Victor M. Barroso, Dr. Oscar B. Cabanelez, and Atty. Ryan L. Estevez. Current Presidents of State Universities and Colleges under the charge of Comm. Libre also attended. Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senator Fanscis Escudero and Gov. Rogelio P. Roque sent messages. Second District Representative Jonathan Keith T. Flores and 1st District Rep. Jose Manuel F. Alba attended in person. 

Dr. Mirasol, flanked by members of her family and the academia, formally took her oath before Comm. Libre in front of hundreds of members of the BukSU community and guests gathered in the University Gymnasium. She told the BukSU community: “Let us inspire each other, support each other, and uplift each other as we embark in this transformative journey.” (Information Unit)
