Six alumni receive awards for their exemplary performances, contribution to BukSU

MALAYBALAY CITY – Six alumni received awards for their exemplary performances and contribution to Bukidnon State University. It was given during the 700 days to grand centennial celebration held at the university Mini Theater on February 15, 2023.

“This is an opportunity to celebrate our remarkable success and reflect on the challenges of our history, articulate the mission of our present, and turn with purpose toward an even more extraordinary teacher,” Dr. Lalevie C. Lubos, Dean of the College of Administration, said in her welcome message in behalf of Atty. Ryan L. Estevez, OIC-Office of the President.

The said event focused on the theme: Excellience: A Milestone Worth-Sharing. 

BukSU conducted this event to give recognition to the exemplary performances of alumni as part of its 700 days countdown to grand centennial celebration.

Ms. Rachel Joyce Come, a nursing alumna, received a Plaque of Recognition for placing 5th in the May 2022 Nursing Licensure Examination.

In her response, she acknowledged the university for its great contributions to her success.

“I would like to thank Bukidnon State University for supporting our college, the College of Nursing. Thank you for giving our college new and updated facilities that future topnotchers can use to train before taking care of actual patients. Thank you for hiring great instructors who care for students not only academically but holistically,” she said.

Atty. Jacinth Felice L. Maristela, a College of Law alumna, received the same recognition for her Exemplary Performance in the 2020/2021 Bar Examination (BAR topnotcher equivalent).

In her response, she extended her gratitude to the College of Law faculty and staff and to the dean, Atty. Sherrymae O. Velos-Decang.

“I would like to thank everyone from the College of Law for making my stay memorable and all the trainings I have received, because if it were not for that I wouldn’t be here,” she said.

Four topnotchers of the 2022 Licensure Examination for Teachers also received awards.

Dr. Mercidita S. Villamayor, College of Education Dean, said that the said activity was a symbol of the unity, enthusiasm, encouragement, and inspiration given by the faculty, administration, and parents to the students.

“This is also proof of the hard work and the burning of midnight candles for the students who achieved the best in their lives,” she said.

Ms. Gelain S. Litanon, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education alumna, received a Plaque of Recognition and cheque worth P50,000 for placing 4th during the 2022 Licensure Examination for Teachers.

In her response, she cited how the university became a huge part of her achievement.

“Thank you BukSU for the new beginning and for opening up opportunities I thought I will never have,” she said.

“Not every child has the same opportunity as mine, although it should not be that way because equal access to quality education is a right of every child. With that being said, I made it my mission as a teacher to serve my countrymen with compassion and dedication,” she added.

Ms. Dye Jean L. Mabunay, Bachelor of Elementary Education alumna, also received a Plaque of Recognition and a cheque worth P30,000 for placing 7th during the 2022 Licensure Examination for Teachers.

In her response, she acknowledged the senior authorities of BukSU, her parents, her friends, the dean and associate dean of College of Education, the LET coordinator, and her instructors for turning her dreams into reality. 

“Many challenges and problems appeared in the journey but with time and dedicated efforts, each of them got solved and, hence, it is today that you all can see how blissful smile is accompanying with me today,” she said.

Ms. Marlyn B. Aguilar, Bachelor of Elementary Education alumna, received the same recognition and a cheque worth P30,000 for placing 8th during the 2022 Licensure Examination for Teachers.

In her response, she mentioned the hardships she has encountered as a student and recognized the university for giving excellent, quality, and globally competitive education and that she’s proud to be a BukSU’an. 

“No matter how hard life is, no matter how rough and bumpy the road may be, continue treading towards your dream destination. You just have to take a step; small steps are way better than no step at all. Someday, it will take you to better places that in due season you will reap a good harvest. Everything will pay off in no time,” she added.

Ms. Florence S. Baylosis, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education alumna, was not present during the event but was also given the same recognition and cheque for placing 8th during the 2022 Licensure Examination for Teachers.

Atty. Warren Jay Pabillaran, Malaybalay City Mayor and a proud alumnus of then Bukidnon State College now Bukidnon State University, was also present during the event. He extended his warmest congratulations to the awardees and shared how BukSU made him who he is today.

“I hope we are part of the bigger picture. On our small individual role, ato lang barugan, (let’s just stand by it) naana tay mahatag nga contribution (we can already give a contribution.) Dili man galing ma-recognize atong efforts (our efforts may not be recognized) what’s important is our reflection in the society,” he added.

He said that the whole City Government of Malaybalay and all its employees, as well as the people of Malaybalay are proud that Bukidnon State University exists.

The Provincial Government of Bukidnon headed by Gov. Rogelio Neil Pepito Roque also received a Plaque of Appreciation for its valuable support and relevant contribution to BukSU in achieving its vision, mission, goals, and programs over the years.

Atty Sherrymae O. Velos-Decang, Dean of the College of Law, said in her closing remarks that she was very proud and impressed with the level of excellence, professionalism, integrity, commitment, and cultural sensitivity—the core values that the alumni displayed during the Board and BAR examinations. “With these milestones, the university has come a long way, and we pray that we continue to excel and to achieve more on the future,” she said.
