BukSU aims for Philippine Quality Award

MALAYBALAY CITY/OP-IPS – In its continuous quest for quality education and excellence, Bukidnon State University aimed for Philippine Quality Award during the three-day virtual visit on August 2-4, 2022.

The university has applied for PQA and was one of the sector organizations assessed during the three-day virtual visit.

As a preparation, the university, headed by the Quality Assurance Office, has conducted a one-day write-shop for application report, university-wide dissemination of PQA information, and various dry runs.

The Philippine Quality Award is an integrated approach for performance management that sets the standard of excellence to help Philippine organizations achieve world-class performance.

In addition, the PQA is the highest level of national recognition for exemplary organizational performance. It is not an award for product or service quality but for a quality management system which hinges on the improvement of product and/or services delivery and provides a means of satisfying and responding to customers’ needs and requirements.

During the first day of virtual visit, the objectives of assessment, including the Do’s and Don’ts of the applicants and assessors, was presented.

The university senior leaders, unit heads, and concerned personnel were also interviewed in their respective virtual breakout rooms.

On the second day, BukSU virtual tour team presented the different areas for assessment, including the university grounds, work spaces, perimeter walls, security, pantries, utility and store room, records room, files, computers, fire system, library, classrooms, faculty room, health office, and even the restrooms.

On the latter part, the Grievance Committee members, concerned regular teaching and non-teaching personnel, and students were interviewed in the virtual breakout rooms.

On the third day of assessment, the remaining interviews with concerned personnel were conducted, followed by the closing ceremony.

The criteria for performance excellence and bases for the feedback given to the award applicant organizations after examination by PQA assessors consist of seven categories: (1) Leadership (2) Strategy (3) Customers (4) Measurement, Analysis and Knowledge Management (5) Workforce (6) Operations (7) Results.

BukSU, as one of the organizations eligible for the 25th cycle of the Philippine Quality Award for 2022, will benefit from this by gaining an outside perspective of the organization’s strengths and opportunities for improvement and receiving a feedback report which outlines the Team of Assessors’ findings based on the evaluation. This feedback can guide the University’s strategic planning and quality and productivity improvement.  Should the University become a PQA Awardee or Recognition recipient, the university’s exceptional management practices become benchmarks and serve as models for other organizations that are on a similar journey to performance excellence.
