BukSU tops the Malaybalay 2026 Search for Best Lactation Station

The local government of Malaybalay City awarded Bukidnon State University first place in the 2026 Search for Best Lactation Station for its implementation of workplace breastfeeding programs and compliance with health infrastructure standards.

The City Health Office and City Nutrition Committee conferred the Plaque of Recognition on BukSU on September 10.

The main campus Lactation Room, located at the former ELS Building, opened in September 2025 to offer students, employees, and visitors a private space for breastfeeding, milk expression, and storage. The facility is fully equipped with comfortable seating, small tables, electrical outlets for breast pumps, lavatories for handwashing, a refrigeration unit for breast milk storage, a manual breast pump, and a medicine cabinet.

BukSU also incorporates breastfeeding information into its health education activities. The university produced and distributed educational materials titled “Breastfeeding: The Best Start in Life.” The material covers information on breastfeeding and infant health and development, maternal health interventions, and socioeconomic impacts.

“By supporting breastfeeding mothers, we not only nurture life today but also invest in the future of our community,” said BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol.

BukSU plans to establish similar lactation facilities at its EduHub campus and various satellite campuses to extend support to mothers across its entire academic network.

BukSU’s health advocacy framework aligned directly with Republic Act No. 10028 (the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009) and Department of Health (DOH) directives, integrating facility development with public health education. (BukSU – Information Unit)
