College of Education implements extension projects with Philippine Army

The College of Education of Bukidnon State University (BukSU) carried out two extension projects with the 4th Division Training School – 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army (4DTS–4ID), as part of its engagement activities focused on lifelong learning and capability development.

The initiatives were structured as three-year extension projects intended to develop the competencies of military students and instructors assigned to the 4DTS.

According to the college, the programs were organized in response to training requirements identified by the unit. These included areas such as digital literacy, functional communication, teaching pedagogies, and research capability, which are applied in instruction and training within the military education system.

One of the initiatives, “Computer Literacy Training for Military Students: A Capability Development Project,” was conducted with the participation of the Secondary Laboratory School (SLS). The activity provided training sessions on basic computer operations, word processing, presentation preparation, and responsible use of digital technology to support the digital literacy of military students.

Another initiative, “Retooling the 4th Infantry Division Philippine Army Instructors on Functional Communication, Teaching Pedagogies, and Research,” was implemented by the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) program. The activity involved seminars and workshops intended to address functional communication skills, pedagogical approaches, instructional practices, and research work among instructors.

LTC Eduardo A. Precioso, Jr., discussed the effect of the extension programs on the instructors and military students involved in the training activities.

He said the knowledge and skills gained from the training initiatives strengthened instruction and training delivery within the unit.

Officials from the training school also reported that, after completing a formal accreditation process, the 4DTS–4ID received recognition as a Center of Excellence, becoming the first among Philippine Army training schools to obtain the designation. (Jade Colegado/ Faculty, College of Education)
