Dr. Rene M. Chavez, faculty and inventor from Bukidnon State University (BukSU), made waves at the 2025 ClusteRICE – NCR Leg of the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits held at the Philippine Science High School Main Campus, Quezon City, Philippines on August 19-20, 2025.
His innovative entry, the “Car Charging and Battery Monitoring System”, captured the top spot under the Banghay Award for Outstanding Industrial Design, besting 6 other contenders under the category from across the country.
The invention is designed to prevent sudden engine stoppages and ensure reliable monitoring of a vehicle’s charging system through advanced sensor technology, proven to be a game-changer in the field of automotive innovation.
The recognition was conferred by the Department of Science and Technology – Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), awarding Dr. Chavez with a ₱25,000 cash prize and a Certificate of Recognition.
“This award is not only for me but for the whole BukSU community and for Mindanao. It shows that with innovation and support, we can compete at the national level,” Dr. Chavez expressed in gratitude, acknowledging the unwavering support of Bukidnon State University in his journey.
With his triumph in the NCR leg, Dr. Chavez’s entry will now advance to the 2026 National Invention Contest and Exhibits, where he is set to compete against the country’s most promising inventors and innovators.
Bukidnon State University hailed Dr. Chavez’s success as a testament to the institution’s commitment to excellence and innovation. His victory stands as an inspiration for students, faculty, and the broader community, bringing pride not only to BukSU but also to the entire Mindanao region.
