BukSU Pushes for Global Cooperation at Philippine-Canada Sustainability Forum

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) is expanding its global engagement through international collaborations by participating in the 1st AgCultivate 2025 and the inaugural General Assembly of the Philippine-Canada Network for Sustainability (PCNS) held on Feb. 24-25, 2025, at the Makati Diamond Residences in Metro Manila.

The event, themed “Addressing Agriculture Sector Challenges through Cooperation in Industry and Academia between Canada and the Philippines,” brought together participants from academic institutions, government agencies, and private organizations. Discussions centered on promoting agricultural sustainability through collaborative solutions and strengthening ties between the two countries.

“BukSU’s participation underscores the university’s commitment to enhancing faculty mobility and strengthening academic linkages. This initiative aligns with BukSU’s dedication to fostering global partnerships and promoting sustainability,” said Ms. Rachel Anne Valera, Program Chair on Faculty Mobility of BukSU’s International Affairs and Linkages Unit (IALU).

“AgCultivate 2025 highlights the urgent need for collaboration among universities, industries, NGOs, and government agencies to address the real challenges faced by farmers and agricultural professionals. The focus on food security and human resource development reflects the recognition that sustainable agriculture requires both policy alignment and skilled individuals to drive innovation,” said Ms. Genessa Jesy Pagote, Chairperson of the Food Technology Department.

BukSU’s membership in the PCNS stems from its ongoing efforts to cultivate international partnerships. The university’s involvement in the network began after Rizza R. Consad, director of the IALU, participated in the British Columbia International Education Week in Victoria, Canada, in 2023. This engagement has since opened avenues for collaboration on research, faculty exchange programs, and policy dialogues on sustainability.

University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol has expressed support for strengthening international ties, recognizing the value of collective action in addressing global agricultural issues. Under her leadership, the university continues to pursue partnerships that contribute to long-term solutions in agriculture, food security, and sustainable development.
