A faculty member from Bukidnon State University (BukSU) has been awarded a grant to pursue his research project under the Strengthening Human Rights and Peace Research in Southeast Asia (SHAPE-SEA) initiative.
Troy John Tero, from the College of Arts and Sciences – Sociology and Social Sciences Department, was selected as one of 10 recipients of the 2024 SHAPE-SEA Research Grants Programme.
As part of the grant, Mr. Tero traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, from August 26 to 29, 2024, to sign his research agreement and participate in an intensive Research Training for Peace Studies and Human Rights.
Mahidol University’s Institute of Human Rights and Peace organized the training to provide grantees with a comprehensive understanding of human rights principles and peace studies.
According to Tero, the training aimed to enhance research skills tailored to these fields, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in both research and advocacy
“[The training] strengthened my network and deepened my commitment to advancing peace and human rights research,” Tero said
The grant will enable him to complete his one-year research project, with the possibility of presenting his findings internationally.
SHAPE-SEA is a research program based at the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies at Mahidol University, Phuttamonthon, Thailand. It aims to enhance the capacity of universities in Southeast Asia to contribute to improving the region’s human rights and peace situation through applied research and education.
BukSU recently signed a memorandum of agreement with SHAPE-SEA, establishing collaboration in research and regional linkages. (Photos and report from Mr. Troy John Tero)
