OVPAA initiates SMART Talks with the BukSU Faculty

The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs held a hybrid cascading of academic policies, processes, and priorities for the BukSU faculty members of the main campus and satellite campuses on November 15, 2023 at the BukSU-Auditorium and via virtual meeting platform.

Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela remarked the significant roles of a faculty member who must be actively engaged with the four-fold functions: instruction, research, extension, and production. She also honored the faculty for their contribution to the success of Bukidnon State University’s endeavors in the program accreditations and ISO surveillance visit.

In her message, SMART University President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol said that the BukSU faculty stand as the vanguard of this university—dedicated, passionate, and committed to molding the minds of BukSU students. They are the lifeline that breathed life into the university’s academic pursuits, and their dedication reflect the very essence of the BukSU education.

She also said that policies were not mere rules but the pillars that supported BukSU’s educational framework. It was designed to create an environment conducive to learning and growth. The administration aimed to create an academic environment that not only adhered to standards but also promoted the holistic development of every member of the community.

CHED Commissioner Jo Mark M. Libre gave his message during the event. He emphasized the important role of the teaching personnel in quality higher education and the need for a collaborative and open platform to discuss concerns. Comm. Libre underlined that the SMART Talks with Faculty was something worth replicating.

The SMART Talks specifically covered presentations and sharing on SMART Education, Transformative Outcomes-Based Education (TOBE), Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) Framework, Distance Education, and Curriculum Internationalization.

The Talks also included inputs on academic mentoring program, stance towards generative artificial intelligence (AI), lifting of Student Internship Abroad Program (SIAP) Moratorium, library resource enhancement, non-ICT Laboratory management, academic function of the Botanical Garden and Herbarium (BukSU-BGH), key take-aways from the CHED-DBM JC for faculty reclassification, and the Faculty Development Program (FDP) FY 2024.
