MALAYBALAY CITY – The International Index Herbariorum by New York Botanical Gardens (NYBG) recognized the Botanical Gardens and Herbarium (BGH) of Bukidnon State University, which was officially registered on July 7, 2022 with the Herbarium Code: BUKH.
BukSU’s BGH is directly responsible for initiating programs and projects for the preservation and restoration of environmental heritage in the province.
The International Index Herbariorum is an international database of herbaria. It enables members to easily access data about botanical specimens that are kept in permanent housing. It is a repository and conservatory of voucher specimens that can be used in various botanical studies. It maintains active links to the international network of systematic resources.
Thus, it connects to the University’s herbarium which serves as a fundamental resource for all kinds of plant taxonomic studies and botanical pedagogy.
Furthermore, BUKH became one of the 4,412 Herbaria in the world, 22 in the Philippines, and 3 in Mindanao. Additionally, it will cite those collections that are housed at BUKH in upcoming publications.
The Director of Botanical Gardens and Herbarium, Dr. Lesley Casas Lubos was thankful for the achievement received by the unit and acknowledged the full support from the university administration led by the University President, Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez, Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela the Vice President for Academic Affairs together with the BukSU community. (Contributed from BukSU BGH)
