MALAYBALAY CITY – BukSU-Libona SC in partnership with MDRRM, took part on the 3rd National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on September 8, 2022.
To ensure awareness and preparedness on the impending threat of its inevitable occurrence, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management (MDRRM) strengthened the efficiency and usefulness of the campus’ preparedness, response and recovery plans, systems and policies by providing trainings and drills.
Knowledge and its application in the realm of action is regarded as an absolutely essential way to prevent disasters or reducing its effects.
MDRRM Officer, Mr. Nepthalie A. Montoya, conducted a briefing on the NSED mechanics which was attended by the teaching and non-teaching force as well as the students of the campus.
Mr. Montoya said it is important to be prepared at all times despite of the pandemic, as earthquake can still happen anytime.
He also believed that by planning and practicing what to do when an earthquake strikes, everyone can react appropriately and automatically when the shaking begins.
The faculty, staff and students did their best to portray their roles especially on the proper action and response during earthquakes while strictly following the health protocols.
After the drill, the team congratulated the participants for the job well done.
Several suggestions were noted to improve the emergency evacuation procedures and to ensure a safe and orderly evacuation in order to prevent loss of lives and injuries especially if real earthquakes will occur.
There is no exemption when it comes to the occurrence of natural disasters such as earthquakes even in the midst of a pandemic. In fact, several areas across the country suffered earthquake despite battling with the COVID-19 pandemic. The drill has indeed tested the efficiency and usefulness of the preparedness, response and recovery plans, systems and policies developed and has evaluated the effectiveness of the contingency plan of the campus.
