BukSU Nursing grad places 5th in 2022 Licensure Examination 

MALAYBALAY CITY/OP-IPS – A Bukidnon State University Nursing graduate ranked fifth during the May 2022 Nursing Licensure Examination, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Nursing said in its website on June 10, 2022.

Ms. Rachel Joyce A. Come obtained a rating of 88.40%, which landed her on the top 5, a spot she shared with another topnotcher from the University of Pangasinan. 

The PRC announced that 68% or 6,616 out of 9,729 examinees successfully passed the examination. In BukSU, a total of 19 out of 21 first-takers and all four re-takers have passed the exam. BukSU has obtained a 90.48% passing rate and 100% repeaters passing percentage.

Ms. Come, who enrolled in a credible review center, said she has answered at least 20 questions a day as part of her preparations for the board exam.  She has allotted two hours of study every after class, including watching videos relevant to the NLE.

She attributed her successful journey with hardships encountered. She said she endured emotional pressure and missed out family bonding time and important occasions. She also felt that some people did not trust that she can make it. 

“There will be times that you would feel exhausted or lost, but let us always make sure to find the light and the right path again,” she said.

The 23-year-old single mother lives in Maican, Damulog Bukidnon. She grew up with her grandparents after her mother died when she was still in fourth grade. Her aunt sent her to school up to college.

In college, to help sustain her expenses, she worked in a restaurant initially as a crew member and later as a band vocalist. She has also worked as a call center agent in her senior year.

Aside from academics, Ms. Come managed to engage in extra-curricular activities as a member of the BukSU Brassband from third year to fourth year college.

After her college graduation in July 2021, she worked as a Nurse Attendant at a hospital in Cagayan de Oro City.

She said the youth should always aim for the better despite the daily sacrifices and downfalls.

“We should always choose to stand and fight again. Life is a battleground that we can win over with the help of the people around us,” she said.

Ms. Come told OP-IPS that she has applied and has been accepted to work as a staff nurse in a local hospital here. She is also planning to apply as a lecturer in a review center where she enrolled. Last year, Mr. Christ Jan D. Manlangit, another Nursing graduate from BukSU, also ranked Top 8 during the November 2021 Nursing Licensure Examinations (NLE). (Diana Rose B. Lagoy/OP-IPS)
