BukSU integrates peacebuilding into climate and health Research

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) is incorporating conflict-sensitive approaches into proposed research on disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation and health through a writeshop conducted October 13-14, 2026, by the university’s Center for Peace Studies (CPS).

The two-day “R&D Clinic and Writeshop on Peace and Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation in Health (DRR-CCAH)” aimed to develop research proposals for the upcoming 2027 external funding call of the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD).

The activity gathered university faculty members, CPS personnel and staff of the University Gender and Development Resource Center (UGRC). It focused on converting early-stage research concepts into proposals for external funding.

Jhanna Dawn B. Apal, concurrent head of the CPS Research Center, said the initiative seeks to prepare research concepts for submission to the 2027 DOST-PCHRD funding call.

The clinic included technical mentoring and proposal evaluations by external experts. Dr. Karell Angelique C. Calpito, science and technology fellow at DOST-PCHRD, led the sessions, while Prof. Mark Anthony J. Torres, director of the Institute for Peace and Development at Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), evaluated the feasibility and strategic alignment of the proposals.

The writeshop focused on integrating peacebuilding into climate adaptation and public health interventions, with disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation as central research areas. (BukSU- Information Unit)
